The Gardens of La Ballue Castle are located in Bazouges-La-Pérouse, in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine (35) in Brittany, a few kilometers from Mont-Saint-Michel. Listed as historical Monument, La Ballue Garden, is marked intrinsically by a sense of ”wonder”, a series of garden rooms, each with its own atmosphere, were designed in harmony with the château firmly rooted in the baroque culture.
The garden, as an extension or mirror of the mind, is a symbolic space filled with conceits and emblems. Variety and liveliness as characteristic of the baroque garden is achieved here by variation in all the structural elements, in scent and colour, in appearance and sounds and in the contemporary statues, mostly grotesques & monsters.
