The Botanical Garden Of Cordeliers : Gardens and landscapes are like mirrors, where our emotions and dreams settle down.
In those peaceful surroundings where dreams of far-off places are awakened, the perfume of old fashioned lavenders and the softness of the wind in the ripening wheat wake our memories, too.
The Botanical Garden of Digne was created in 1986, and begun to develop towards a landscape garden in 1996. Until then a small conservatory for local and ancient plants, it becomes a place of events and exhibitions; its aims become more clearly defined and the collections grow.
Different ornamental plants embellish the garden's entrance; a collection of herbals undulates between the stones of the country, where roses and Himalayan plants bloom.
The garden of wild medical plants shows reconstitutions of wild habitats : dry mountains, limestone hillside, cool underbrush, wet prairies, moors and wastelands. The garden of aromatic herbs contains local species as well as those come from afar: African pelargonium grow here next to lavender and botanical and horticultural roses, South American sage and irises...and their rich perfumes.
The kitchen garden regroups principally wild and ancient European and American vegetables, which are planted in a different order every year. A small labyrinth opens onto the Dahlia plantation, which is planted with the most beautiful flowers chosen from the town's flowerbeds.
Fruit and ornamental trees give their shade to small areas of contemplation...
The Garden of the Senses, created in 2005, offers a playful walk across a space designed for the joy of the senses, where tactile plants and those that make sounds underline the sculptures and the mineral lines. Surface : 2800 m2
