It was in 1699, the very year of his being promoted superintendent of Buildings, Parks and Gardens and of his building Place Vendôme that Mansart acquired Sagonne County.
Having to entertain the King, he immediately dismissed the feudal castle and erected a new building.
Facing this habitation, he set up a French Garden the lines of which are said to have been designed by Le Nôtre.
Two grand perspectives crosswise organise the park. One of them, traversing the lake by a road and the first court, leads to the foot of the keep.
The Château de Sagonne has been awarded the ”Maison des Illustres” label in honor of the great architect.
