The Garden Maria Serena

Menton - Alpes-Maritimes (06) - Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur - France

The Garden Maria Serena : At the very end of the sea-front, last house before the Italian border, stands the villa Maria Serena. It is said to be by Charles Garnier, and has been built in 1880 for the family of Foucher de Careil, related to Ferdinand de Lesseps.
Today the Mentone town council holds its receptions here. The villa is surrounded by a garden where thrive, on 1,5 hectares, tropical and subtropical plants, important palm tree and cyca collections and a remarkable Dracaena. Reputed to be the most temperate garden in France (the temperature never drops below 5° C), it has a wonderful outlook over the sea and Mentone' old town. Surface : 1,450 ha
