Decided by Napoleon III within the works of embellishment, the creation of the park of the same name was made necessary because of the growing importance of the Thermal Baths in Vichy.
It was laid out between 1862 and 1865 on a part of the Allier river bed.
It is separated from the main current by a dyke to prevent the very frequent floods of the river.
This 13 hectares park of english inspiration bordered by Imperial Suite Chalets has got an eclectic mixture of local an exotic plants.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the creation of the ”parc du Soleil” and of the ”parc des Bourins” brought the total superficy of the Allier parks to 23 hectares.
Proprety of the State and listed at the Inventory of Historical Monuments, the parks all together have at the present time 2 000 trees of 83 kinds, 164 species and more than 220 varieties. Surface : 23 ha
