Description
A rare exemple of pure Louis XIII architectural style, Château de Bosmelet was built in 1632 and still stands at the apex of 300 year-old lime tree avenues planted out to French classical garden designs by Colinet in 1715.
These projects already feature the two-acre kitchen garden behind its 18th century rose brick walls. To ensure year-round interest, Baroness Laurence de Bosmelet has devides a rainbow potager garden with some 900 varieties of vegetables and flowers in four chromatic patterns on either side of the central box-wood hedge that divides the garden horizontally and balances the for mixed borders renovated in 1996 by Louis Benech to form the central "Demeter Alley".
The spring Narcissus garden (32 varities) becomes the oriental vegetable garden later in the season with some 24 plants used in oriental cuisine.
Opposite -new in 2002- the cut flower bed balances the luminous Dahlia river autumn display of more than 70 cultivars.
Starting in 1998, the northern forecourt was embellished with the "Four Seasons" flower beds at the centre of diagonal pathways that mirror the black brickwork patterns of the Château's formal façade through a wild meadow.
In 2004, "Château de Bosmelet Gardens" have obtained the special label of "Remarquable Garden" awarded by the French ministry of Culture.
